Part 3: The Burden Bearer
7. Do we know what to ask for?
“Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” Romans 8:26
Note: God gives us what we would desire if we knew the beginning from the end as He does. Only God can see the bigger picture.
8. Where should we pray?
a) In public
“Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people.” Isaiah 56:7 (For further study see Luke 19:46.)
b) In secret
“But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.” Matthew 6:6
“And he (Jesus) withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed.” Luke 5:16
Note: It may not always be possible to find a secret place for prayer, but we can always pray in the secret of our heart.
9. What should we do with our burdens?
“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” 1 Peter 5:7
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30
