Part 1: Life
1. Who has power to create life?
“God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;” Acts 17:24-25
“Let them praise the name of the Lord: for he commanded, and they were created.” Psalms 148:5 (For further study see Genesis 1:1 and John 1:1-4)
Note: God alone can create something out of nothing. People take the elements God has given to make things “new to them.” But God says “…there is nothing new under the sun.” Ecclesiastes 1:9. Can you create a new color? One that has no red, blue, or yellow in it? God can.
2. What is a “living soul?”
“And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” Genesis 2:7
Note: “Dust” + “breath of life”= “a living soul” So, what is the “breath of life?”
3. What is another term for “breath of life”?
“All the while my breath is in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils;” Job 27:3
“The spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.” Job 33:4 (For further study see Job 34:14 and Isaiah 42:5.)
Note: There are three types of spirit(s) recorded in the Bible. The first refers to the spirit or “breath of life” that God gives to all His creatures to sustain our physical life. The second refers to the Holy Spirit which is given to sustain our spiritual life. You can learn more about this wonderful being in the study titled “The Gift of the Holy Spirit.” The third refers to other spirits both good and bad.
