Part 2: The Body and the Spirit
4. When a person dies, what happens to the body?
“In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.” Genesis 3:19
“All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.” Ecclesiastes 3:20 (For further study see Job 10:9 and Job 34:15.)
5. When a person dies, what happens to the “spirit”?
“Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.” Ecclesiastes 12:7
“Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help. His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.” Psalms 146:3-4
6. Can the body live separately from the spirit or breath?
“For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.” James 2:26. (For further study see Psalms 104:29 and Ezekiel 37:5-10)
