My dear friend,
Have you ever tried to define love? The world has many definitions for love. But which answer is right? The apostle John states”…God is love.” (1 John 4:8) It is the devil’s work to make God look bad, so he makes love appear confusing, shallow, and even selfish.
Love is not an emotion, but can create the emotion of love. People often confuse passion for an emotion of love. Where passion and desire are selfish, love is completely and utterly unselfish.
Love is not an act but the motivation for all unselfish deeds. It is only through this love that we can overcome. Without love all is nothingness. “Vanity** of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.” Ecclesiastes 1:2
Love is better shown then spoken. Christ is the only pure unfaltering and complete example of love. He gave up royalty of the highest order. He was all-powerful (omnipotent), all-knowing (omniscient) and everywhere at once (omnipresent). He had it all in the fullest sense. But He gave it all up for a world with whom He knew would mock, deride, scourge, reject and finally crucify Him.
It is through Christ’s sacrifice that we can become the reciprocal of this love. When we put our focus on Christ we become like Him. “But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 3:18
