Love Works Part 1

Part 1:  The Law
Please bear with this lesson.  The law really isn’t about a list of don’ts as this lesson will appear at first.

1.  Who wrote the law?
“And God spake all these words saying,”… then God spoke His ten commandments. Exodus 20:1
“And the Lord said unto Moses, Come up to me into the mount, and be there: and I will give thee tables of stone, and a law, and commandments which I have written; that thou mayest teach them.”  Exodus 24:12  (For further study see John 5:3.)

2.  Is God perfect?
“He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.”  Deuteronomy 32:4
“Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.”  Matthew 5:48   (For further study see Psalms 18:20 and Luke 6:40.)

3.  Is God’s law perfect?
The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.  The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.” Psalms 19:7-8
Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.”  Romans 7:12  (For further study see James 1:25.)

4.  Does God keep His own law?
“My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.”  Psalms 89:34
“Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.”  Matthew 5:48  (For further study see Deuteronomy 32:4.)

Note:  God keeps His own law because it is a reflection of His perfect character*.  In this context character refers to one’s moral standing.

5.  Are we expected to keep God’s commandments?
“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.”  Ecclesiastes 12:13
“And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?  And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.”  Matthew 19:16-17  (For further study see Matthew 5:48 and James 2:12.)
