Part 3:  The Love
8.  How is God’s whole law summed up?
“Master, which is the great commandment in the law?  Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.  This is the first and great commandment.  And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.  On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”  Matthew 22:36-40 (For further study see Joshua 22:5.)

Note:  There are four types of laws recorded in the Bible.  They include the civil, ceremonial, health, and the moral laws.  This study focuses on God’s moral law.

9.  Is there power in the law to save?
“For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God.”  Hebrews 7:19
“Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;”  Titus 3:5  (For further study see Galatians 3:21 and Romans 3:20.)

10.  What is the purpose of the law?
“Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.”  Romans 3:20
“Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.”  Galatians 3:24  (For further study see Romans 7:7.)

Note:  “God’s law is the mirror presenting a complete reflection of the man as he is, and holding up before him the correct likeness.”  {E.G. White, FW page 31.4}
