Part 3: Spiritualism
8. What lie brought sin into our world?
“And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.” Genesis 2:16-17
“And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:” Genesis 3:4
Note: Spiritualism is based upon the belief that your dead loved ones are not dead but in heaven, hell, or some other place. This was the lie that brought sin into our world “Ye shall not surely die.” Spiritualism goes farther by claiming that you can communicate with the dead. If this is your belief, please consider reading the study titled “Death.” Understanding truth is the difference between eternal life and eternal death.
9. What did God call witches, wizards and other forms of spiritualism?
“There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch. Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord: and because of these abominations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee.” Deuteronomy 18:10-12
Note:
pass through the fire– an ancient pagan practice where they sacrificed their children by fire to idols
divination– the practice of seeking knowledge about the future through supernatural means, for example ouija boards, crystal balls, or tarot cards.
observer of times– a type of divination using star, also known as astrology
enchanter– a magician or sorcerer who casts “magical” spells and bewitches (curses)
witch– one who practices magic
charmer– uses charms, particularly jewelry, to cast spells either blessings or curses.
consulter with familiar spirits– a medium, or one who attempts to contact the dead (or evil spirits impersonating dead loved ones)
wizard– a male witch who is considered wise in spiritualism
necromancer– someone who has spoken to the dead (evil spirits in disguise)
10. What was the penalty of practicing or seeking spiritualism?
“And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits, and after wizards, to go a whoring after them, I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his people.” Leviticus 20:6 For further study see Exodus 22:18 and Micah 5:12.
